“What comes easy won’t last long, and what lasts long won’t come easy.”
Do you remember building sand castles? Maybe as a child or as a parent?
Remember all that hard-work, the days and weeks it took to build that castle?
Remember visiting that castle over the years? Seeing how it has grown and changed?
OF COURSE NOT!
You spent an hour or so sweaty, covered in sand, trudging buckets and getting sun-burned. All to have this architectural masterpiece washed away by the waves an hour later!
So what's my point?
In one form or another this is the most frequently asked question I get at the gym.
How long will it take for me to feel better?
My answer to this is simply, REMEMBER THE SAND CASTLE. Lots of work, and a quick cool looking result, but no foundation! So it's washed away at the next tide.
My expectation for a new member is to be feeling less crappy, less sore and more energetic within a few months.
But lasting change isn't a sand castle it's built on sturdier foundations. When the Egyptians built the pyramids, it took years upon years and they have lasted millennia.
Stop thinking about fitness and nutrition in weeks and 30 days plans. Start thinking about years and the rest of your life.
You can certainly look and feel better within a month or two. But real lasting change takes long. Maybe not Great Pyramid long, but you get the idea!
